THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HEALTH EDUCATION AND CONTROL OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AMONG PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS IN ETINAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF AKWA IBOM STATE.
The aim of this
work was to examine the relationship between health, education and control of
communicable diseases among primary school pupils in Nsit Ibom Local Government
Area, Akwa Ibom State. Four objectives, research questions and hypotheses were
formulated for the study Social Cognitive Theory and the Health Belief Model
was the theoretical frameworks that guided the study. Descriptive survey
research design is adopted for this study. The area of the study was Nsit Ibom
Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The population of the study was one- thousand
two hundred and eleven (1,211) primary school pupils. The study used simple
random sampling technique in selecting respondents for the study. A sample size
of 120 primary 4 pupils was randomly selected from 5 public schools. The
research instrument used for the study was a researcher designed instrument
titled “Health Education and Control of Communicable Diseases Instrument”
(HFCDI). In other to determine the reliability of the instrument, a test retest
method was adopted. A reliability co-efficient of 0.84 was established for the
instrument using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Pearson Product Moment
Correlation was the statistical tool used in data analyses as well as answering
research questions, findings from the study revealed a significant relationship
between health education and the control of communicable diseases such as
measles, chicken pox, mumps and conjunctivitis among primary school pupils in
Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
