Victims of Crime and the Psychological Effects of their Experience. A Case Study of South- South Region of Nigeria
Abstract
In Nigeria, unlike England, the sentencing policies rely heavily on the punishment of the offender
to the neglect of the victims remedy. This study intends to x-ray the victims of crime and the
psychological effects of their experiences. A case study of the South-South region of Nigeria. The
method adopted to gather data was to administer questionnaire to respondents. A total of 600
questionnaires were administered randomly to indigenes of each of the states that make up the
region. The research employed lifestyle/exposure theory. The research also employed chi-square
in the analysis and testing of hypotheses. The research revealed that victims of crime in Nigeria
are not compensated.
