Abstract This paper examines the services that must be provided by librarians in university libraries to enhance maximal utilization of information resources and patronage of these libraries. It also highlights factors that affect the provision of library information services. The strategies that librarians could employ in order to ensure timely provision of library information services in Nigerian university libraries were discussed. Thus government should fund universities and by implication, university libraries so as to encourage higher productivity in acquiring resources and facilities for the provision of library information services.
